Atlas

Atlas's journey began when a compassionate subscriber of my YouTube channel, Training Wild Burros, stepped in to rescue him after he was injured in an attack by a jack. They cared for his wounds and, recognizing he needed more support, reached out to me to help guide him to the next stage of healing and growth. When Atlas arrived, he was in desperate need of proper hoof care and a chance to learn trust. We’re now focused on building that trust through gentling, foundational groundwork—and so much more.

Frank

Frank is a two-year-old mustang with a laid-back attitude—we lovingly call him our “whatever horse” because he’s up for anything. He joined us in June 2024, arriving alongside another mustang and a donkey. Their names? Doctor, Frank, and Stein—yes, really! This trio quickly became part of the family.

Frank is a well-rounded young gelding who handles his feet nicely, leads and trailers with ease, and accepts a saddle without fuss. His groundwork is solid, and he’s already been on several outings with our local horse group—even tackling the obstacle course like a champ.

Ox  tag # 6656

Meet Ox Ox is a 19-year-old burro from the Twin Peaks HMA, and his name couldn’t be more fitting. With his calm confidence, steady demeanor, and insatiable curiosity, Ox quickly won us over. Within just a week, he’s already seeking our company and following us around the wild pen—proof that he’s just as interested in us as we are in him.

We’re working with Ox through the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program to gently prepare him for adoption. Over time, he’ll learn essential skills like wearing a halter, leading, accepting touch, picking up his feet, and calmly loading into a trailer.

Watching his transformation from wild to willing is a truly rewarding journey—and once he’s ready, he’ll be looking for a forever home. Could that be with you?

Eagle  Tag # 0289

Meet Eagle Eagle is a 15-year-old burro from the Black Mountain, AZ HMA, and his name speaks volumes. With a calm confidence and a striking light-colored head, he carries himself with quiet authority—just like his namesake.

He’s currently undergoing gentling as part of the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program, and we’re guiding him through the foundational steps that prepare him for life with a new family. He’ll be learning to wear a halter, lead willingly, accept gentle touch, pick up his feet, and load into a trailer with ease.

Once he’s ready, Eagle will be available for adoption to a home that appreciates his dignity and quiet strength. If you’re drawn to a burro with both presence and poise, Eagle might just be the one for you.

Squirrel - Tag # 2964

Meet Tag #2964 who is a 21-year-old burro from the Seven Troughs, NV HMA—but don’t let his age fool you. Donkeys are renowned for their longevity, often living well into their 40s and beyond. There’s even a standing joke in the burro world: you might want to include them in your will, because chances are they’ll be around for the long haul!

Despite his years, Tag #2964 is far from the oldest burro we’ve ever worked with. He’s currently beginning his gentling journey through the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program, where he’ll learn to wear a halter, lead with confidence, accept gentle touch, pick up his feet, and load calmly into a trailer.

Once he’s ready, he’ll be looking for a home that values his experience and quiet presence. He may have spent two decades in the wild, but his next adventure could be with you.

While he came to us timid, his boundless curiosity and bubbly spirit didn’t take long to emerge. He’s incredibly resilient—quick to recover from fearful moments—and thrives on connection. Always engaging, Corky loves being the center of attention, eagerly interacting with people and stealing the spotlight with his silly antics and bright personality.

Doctor - "Doc" for short

Doc joined our herd in June 2024 and has been a joy to work with ever since, thanks to his playful and affectionate nature. Dan began teaching him a few fun tricks early on, but we’ve since decided to hold off until he’s a bit more mature—after all, donkeys tend to develop a little later than their horse companions.

We estimate Doc will reach about 13 hands high once fully grown. He’s doing wonderfully with his groundwork—he leads, ties, picks up his feet with ease, and even trailers like a champ. Doc’s also already been on some great adventures, including a visit to our local horse club. He got to tag along for the Halloween party and soak in all the fun: people, other animals, and plenty of spooky decorations!

Chimpmunk Tag # 3452

Meet Chipmunk Chipmunk is a 10-year-old burro from the Outside HA: CA HMA, and his name suits him perfectly. He’s curious, undeniably cute, and—at times—a little conflicted. He wants to connect with us, and you can see him wrestling with that instinct to approach. But that inner conflict is actually a great sign: it means he’s thinking, wondering, and starting to trust. And once that door of curiosity opens, true connection can begin.

Chipmunk is part of the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program, and we’re gently guiding him through his transition from wild to willing. He will learn to wear a halter, follow a lead, accept human touch, pick up his feet, and load into a trailer with confidence.

Once he’s ready, he’ll be available for adoption to a kind and patient home. If you’re looking for a burro with a spark of curiosity and a heart ready to grow, Chipmunk might be your perfect match.

Tag # 2991   This guy still needs a name!

Meet Tag #2991 Tag #2991 is a 21-year-old burro from the Shawave Mountains II, NV HMA—and while his age might raise some eyebrows, donkeys are known for their impressive longevity, often living well into their 40s (and sometimes beyond). There's even a running joke in the donkey world: you may want to include them in your will, because they’re likely to outlive you!

With his quiet confidence and steady demeanor, Tag #2991 carries his age with dignity and calm strength. He’s not even the oldest burro we've ever gentled, and his maturity brings a thoughtful presence that’s impossible to miss.

Right now, we’re giving him space to settle in and show us who he is—we’re holding off on giving him a name until his personality fully emerges. When the right one reveals itself, we’ll know.

He’s currently being prepared for adoption through the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program, where he’ll learn to wear a halter, lead confidently, accept gentle touch, pick up his feet, and load into a trailer with ease.

This seasoned soul still has many years ahead—and a story just beginning. Maybe his next chapter starts with you.
